Compass Group UK & Ireland has won three awards at the Cambrian Training (TAG) Apprenticeship, Employment & Skills Awards 2021. Alastair Robert Jones, Chef with ESS Defence, won Foundation Apprentice of the Year; Stewart Wooles, Catering Manager with ESS Defence, won Apprentice Chef of the Year, and Compass Cymru won Macro Apprenticeship Employer of the Year.

Cambrian Training work with employers and learners throughout Wales, delivering a range of training, apprenticeship, skills and employment training programmes.

The Awards celebrate all that is great about Welsh training, apprenticeships and skills, rewarding individuals and employers who have excelled in the vocational learning and training programmes Cambrian Training delivers. They also recognise the achievements of those who have exceeded expectations during their engagement and commitment to the training and skills programmes, and shown a unique approach to training and development.

Managing Director of Compass Cymru, Jane Byrd, said of the win: “We couldn’t be happier at Compass Cymru to have won these three awards! Huge congratulations go to Alastair and Stewart for their exceptional work, this really is well-deserved recognition not only for them, but for our apprenticeship programme. This is a big step in our promise to provide apprenticeships for the next generation of the Welsh hospitality industry.”

Jonathan Foot, Head of Apprenticeships and Early Careers at Compass Group UK & Ireland commented: “We’re proud to partner with Cambrian Training, who we work closely with to deliver industry-leading and aspirational apprenticeships in culinary, FOH, FM, business, CS and management. Winning these accolades at their annual awards is really special and we hope it shows people that we’re passionate about supporting the skills development of existing employees as well as attracting new talent.”
