Compass Healthcare Hero: Nicola Lamont
Nicola oversees a 270 strong cleaning team at King’s Mill Hospital and provides support across the Sherwood Forest contract at two other sites, Mansfield Community Hospital and Newark Hospital.
Nicola is an inspiring character taking great pride in her role and demonstrating amazing commitment. Her position, along with her domestic colleagues, is essential to preventing the transmission of illness within the hospitals. In February this year, King’s Mill scored ‘100% clean’ in their patient led assessment.
It goes without saying that during the pandemic she and her team have been working under increased pressure, as wards changed daily, testing pods were introduced, new routes around the hospital were established and extra facilities for staff such as showers and hand washing stations were implemented. These all need to be immaculately clean at all times. This was on top of enhanced cleaning across all wards and the A&E department, especially where Covid-19 patients were being treated. Operating Theatres and Critical Care departments saw some major changes and Nicola led the charge in supporting the Trust, providing 24-hour domestic cover - to clean, but also to make sure that the department was fully stocked in everything that it needed.
Nicola has been a shining star throughout the pandemic and her perseverance has never faltered. She has shown incredible dedication to her teammates, working to ensure their health and safety and understand each person’s circumstances.
Nicola said: “People have always known and appreciated the NHS, but when you think of hospitals your mind automatically goes to the incredible work of doctors and nurses. Over the past few months, I have been amazed at the growing recognition in the part we play behind the scenes as cleaners. It’s wonderful to be part of such a dedicated team and I couldn’t be prouder of the role I have to play.”
