Compass Group UK & Ireland helps provide clean drinking water to 100,000 people
Compass Group UK & Ireland, the UK’s largest food and support services firm, is embracing the festive spirit after reaching an outstanding charitable milestone of providing 100,000 people in developing countries with clean drinking water.
Compass has worked in partnership with ethical bottled water company, Life Water, as its primary bottled water supplier since 2014. The product is currently supplied in over 1,700 sites across the business and through every bottle sold, at least 1,000 litres of clean drinking water is provided to a community in need.
To date, Compass Group UK & Ireland has sold more than 20million bottles of Life Water and through the partnership and Life Water’s associate charity, drop4drop, has successfully completed 76 clean drinking water projects by donating wells to communities in India and Uganda.
Life Water’s partner charity, drop4drop, works directly with country partners to identify communities in need of clean water before managing and developing each project.
Amrita Das from West Bengal in India explained that the water bore-well that was donated by Medirest earlier this year, a division of Compass Group UK & Ireland, benefitted her village tremendously.
She said: “Since my birth I didn’t seen any clean water in our village. So it was very tough to arrange water from other long routed village. Due to lack of fresh water, diseases increased. Each year a number of children die. Now we have installed one bore well and we are enjoying with fresh water. We give thanks to Medirest for improving our lives.”
Charlotte Fennell, Marketing and Communications Manager of Life Water, said: “We are thrilled that Compass Group UK & Ireland has helped provide clean drinking water to 100,000 people – what a huge and exciting milestone for our partnership.
“Each month, the business continues to fund more projects and it is great to see how a decision to simply purchase a bottle of Life Water can have such a long-lasting, positive impact on the lives of so many people.”
Dennis Hogan, Managing Director for Compass Group UK & Ireland, added: “We are very proud of our partnership with Life Water and the benefit this brings to thousands of people in need. To have now provided 100,000 people with clean drinking water and to have helped make such a great difference to so many across communities in Uganda and India is an amazing achievement.
“We aim to continue in our efforts to complete more projects, fund more wells and bring clean drinking water to many more communities in need through our partnership with Life Water.”
