Sharon Trundle started at Compass Group UK & Ireland 8 years ago as a Barista in the Chertsey head office, needing a job that would fit around her young family. Her previous jobs had included hotel and hospitality work.

After 2 years, she was promoted to Supervisor, a role that challenged her, allowed her to grow and gain valuable experience. In this role she managed a team of four, oversaw the ordering of food, compiled the work rotas, learnt how to independently run the restaurant and did onboarding training. In 2018 Sharon was entered into Compass’ Master Barista Competition, where she proudly won first place!

As she gained experience and confidence, Sharon wanted to stay at Compass Group UK & Ireland, but also wanted to learn new skills. So, when the opportunity of working in the Compass House facilities team came up, she “grabbed it with both hands”. Taking on the position of Guest Service Assistant and completing her IOSH training (a health and safety certificate), this was her chance to stay within the company, but also try something different and develop her career in a new direction.

Sharon has now moved onto the position of Deputy General Manager for a prominent client within Compass’ Restaurant Associates sector. In this position she has taken on the responsibility of ordering food supplies, maintaining budgets and finance support, managing a team, as well as attending meetings with managers and key stakeholders.

Sharon said: “I never thought that applying for the job which would let me, 8 years later, be Deputy General Manager. Compass Group UK & Ireland has created a culture that values its employees and encourages them to grow and develop, both personally and professionally – something I have personally benefitted from, which has enabled me to develop a career for myself.”
