Levy Restaurants UK “plaices” sustainable fish at its core

News

Levy Restaurants UK, the sports, leisure and hospitality catering specialists, has signed up to the Sustainable Cities Fish Pledge, hook line and sinker.

The company is making a commitment to buy, serve and promote only sustainable fish at all of its venues across the UK, from Hever Castle in Kent to the SECC Hydro in Glasgow.

By signing the Sustainable Fish Cities pledge Levy Restaurants has promised to “reel in” any poor practice and only buy sustainable seafood, to protect precious marine environments and fish stocks, supporting good fishing livelihoods.

The pledge requires the company to:
• Step 1 - State its commitment: Tell customers and the public that it is developing and implementing a policy on seafood sustainability in its business.
• Step 2 - Gather information: Assess and monitor the environmental sustainability of the seafood it serves.
• Step 3 - Source sustainably: Make sustainable seafood choices. This will include: Avoiding the worst; Promoting the best;  Improving the rest:
• Step 4 - Communicate clearly
• Step 5 - Influence wider progress

Colin Bailey, Managing Director, Levy Restaurants UK commented:
“We pride ourselves on delivering great quality food, drink and service, creating memorable experiences for our guests.  It’s just brilliant to have signed up to the Sustainable Fish Cities Pledge, giving our customers confidence that the fish we serve at any of our locations, is  sustainably sourced and ensuring we are playing our part to enable people to enjoy fish for generations to come.”

Ruth Westcott, coordinator of Sustainable Fish Cities, added:
“We are delighted that Levy Restaurants UK has signed the Sustainable Fish Cities Pledge.  By adopting a sustainable fish policy across their whole business, it makes sustainable fish normal. Knowing that Levy customers are being served sustainable fish at any one of the venues it operates at across the UK is fantastic news.”

As a signatory of the Sustainable Fish Cities Pledge, Levy also placed highly in a recently published Olympic inspired medals table, focusing on London based sporting venues, created by Sustain – which awarded gold, silver, bronze medals to those venues and caterers that have signed up to the pledge. Levy secured five medals with Wimbledon Championships and Kia Oval cricket ground being awarded golds.
