Jockey Club Catering champions British summer with Great British Picnics at The Investec Derby Festival

Jockey Club Catering is marking the beginning of the British summer events season with the introduction of a new picnic range, “Great British Picnics”, for The Investec Derby Festival, Epsom Downs Racecourse, 3 – 4 June.

In celebration of The Queen’s 90th birthday and to coincide with ‘The Greatest Flat Race in the World’, the Jockey Club Catering team has developed a modern take on one of the country’s most loved culinary past times - the picnic.

Visitors to Epsom Downs Racecourse over the two day festival can pre-order and collect their picnics, and enjoy them at their own reserved table within the glorious Tattenham Straight Enclosure where they can get close to the action as the runners approach the final furlong.

Racegoers can choose from a range of beautifully handmade picnics including a Great British Afternoon Tea, featuring finger sandwiches, cakes and traditional scones with jam and clotted cream.

The Great British Hamper option includes a spread of cold meats, local cheeses including the Sussex Charmer Cheddar, Jockey Club Catering’s own homemade chutneys and Denbies sparkling wine.

A vegetarian hamper is also available with a range of pies, quiche, pickles and a Jockey Club Catering cheeseboard on offer, while the Great British Little Picnic Box is available for younger racegoers, packed with ham, egg mayonnaise or chicken sliders, vegetable sticks and dips, chocolate brownies, crisps and a selection of sweets.

For this year’s Festival we wanted to champion the British summer, whilst acknowledging The Queen’s 90th birthday. We feel picnics – combined with exciting horse racing over the two days – is the perfect way to mark the occasion.”
