Compass employee wins “Advocate of the Year Award” at the Ex-Forces in Business Awards

News

Last week, hundreds of companies came to together at the Ex-forces in Business Awards annual award ceremony in London. The event is the largest business event of its kind that celebrates the Armed Forces.

We are so proud that our very own Angela Lewis, Business Performance Manager in our ESS business, won “Advocate of the Year” a truly wonderful achievement recognising her extraordinary work which includes designing, leading and implementing numerous initiatives and policies for services leavers and the wider military family.

Angela is a shining example of what one person can achieve if they bring like-minded people together in support of our veterans with passion, drive and endless energy.

Angela is not a veteran nor a military spouse herself, but a role model to all that know her and meet her for all that she does for the military community. She has supported the military community, both internally within Compass Group and externally through numerous military charities and initiatives for over 10 years, since joining the Defence sector of Compass Group in 2013. However, over the last 18 months, her support has culminated in some key deliverables that have been recognised by charities, veterans and business. Just one of these would set her above any veteran, spouse or Armed Forces committee member, but Angela has carried out a huge amount of work, all on top of her ’day job’ as a business quality and performance manager and continues to strive for new ways to support service leavers and veterans.

Angela’s support to the military spouses within Compass group has seen a knock-on effect with the number of veterans applying for roles. Additionally, there has been a marked increase in veterans finding their first role out of the military in Compass Group thanks to her support of their military wives and partners.

Compass Group was also proud to be shortlisted as “Employer of the Year”. While we didn’t take home the winner’s award, we were delighted to have made the shortlist at such a prestigious event.

Additionally, the company is featured in the 100 Great British Employers of Veterans, published by exforcesinbusiness.co.uk and Disruptive Media.
