Our dedicated school and education catering experts, Chartwells, are proud partners of St Joseph’s Comprehensive School in Newport, Wales. Combining their passion for food with St Joseph’s commitment to rewarding mealtimes, the team reviewed their catering offering to help them become a Chartwells Centre of Excellence.

Food experiences that go beyond the plate
Working closely with St Joseph’s in-house catering manager, Kerry, the Chartwells team are focused on creating exceptional dining experiences that go beyond the food being served. Encouraging students to feel more confident in socialising and making dietary decisions for themselves, the team have taken big steps like decorating the school’s dining hall with a vibrant mural of Welsh and English words, including ‘delicious’, ‘strength’ and ‘diverse’, to encourage a nutrition-first approach to mealtimes.
Cooking up inspiration for students and the community
Committed to brightening young minds through nourishing food, the Chartwells team encourage the students of St Joseph’s to embrace new flavours, ingredients and cuisines through themed culinary experiences. One recent example is when, along with St Joseph’s dedicated catering team, our executive chefs prepared a selection of Vietnamese dishes, from steamed buns to spiced dumplings, for parents watching the school’s production of Miss Saigon.
Chartwells personnel also regularly engage with the school’s local community by inviting neighbouring schools to learn from their expert culinary teams.
